Q: I am trying to install an M-Audio driver and I receive an error message stating “Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable. Message: Out of Disk Space - Volume "D:"; required space: 0 KB; available space: 0KB. Free some disk space and retry.”

A: The issue occurs when Windows was installed on a pre-partitioned drive. When the OS is installed, users should only have one drive installed in the computer, and should use the Windows installer to create the partition(s). Users get this error because there is a hidden partition that is reserved by the OS that has filled up.

The suggested workaround is to temporarily disable the referenced drive (it’s not always D:\) from the Windows Device Manager. The referenced drive letter is often (but not always) is CD/DVD drive. Once the drivers have been installed, re-enable the device.

If the user is unable to disable this drive, the only other option is to re-install the operating system, with only 1 drive installed, and to let the Windows installer partition the driver; DO NOT pre-partition the drive.  Also refer to this article with information on avoiding this hidden partition when installing the operating system.
